To maximize efficiency within their Emergency Department, Sharp Healthcare, a San Diego-based health system, has built a pod module which has realigned the staffing structure to increase flexibility and teamwork. This new environment has fostered a more cohesive team approach, enabling them to execute a ‘quick care unit,’ perform hourly huddles to communicate about patient care, and make continual non-burdensome adjustments to enhance both the patient and staff experience.
This program provides a deep dive into how Sharp Healthcare’s ED model heightens availability and effectiveness of ED staff, reinforces accountability among certified roles, allows for a rapid and effective turnover of ‘treat and street’ patients, plus examines how constant re-evaluation of processes is not only needed, but is crucial to the continued success of the ED.
